Hello everyone. I’m a bit nervous to make this announcement but here goes: today I’ve decided to turn off my Kickstarter campaign. The campaign was going really well (hell, we raised over 17 grand) and I’m very humbled by all the support I received — but for many reasons the timing just didn’t feel right. My decision to end this campaign early was a personal one and one I did not take lightly.
First of all, I would like to apologize for getting everyone’s hopes up. Everyone who pledged, who blogged, who read my emails, who promoted my campaign, who helped put together my video, etc — your support truly meant the world to me. But in the end, I decided to go with my gut and shut the campaign down with 16 days remaining.
I want to be clear, db clay is NOT going out of business. I simply am just turning it down to a simmer so that I can focus on building a more solid foundation for myself as I turn the ripe old age of 32 this summer. I will continue to blog, produce art, design, come up with ideas, etc but for now, I need to focus on other things. In particular, I am really excited about pursuing a career in the world of mobile technology and I am very optimistic about the future.
When db clay was going down in 2008 I fought with everything in me to save it. 2008 and 2009 took a toll on me in a way that I’ll never be able to fully articulate. Not to take death lightly, but I felt like a part of my soul died when db clay crashed. In 2011, I saw an opportunity to bring db clay back and that lit a fire in me — thus, my Kickstarter campaign. But now that it’s back, and after deep reflection, I realized I am a different person now. I realized now is not the best time to fire up the engines.
Again, thanks to all for your support. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a line: office(at)dbclay.com
